How do you prepare your background for pebble dashing?

The background walling needs to be reasonably dry with no frost. A temperature of +5°C or above at the time of rendering is ideal, but the manufacturer’s guidelines should be followed.

The whole background area that will be rendered needs to be tested. Backgrounds to be rendered should be examined for:

• Contamination
• Deterioration
• Surface roughness
• Suction
• Strength

Dust and contamination should be removed prior to rendering. The line and flatness of the background also needs to be assessed; determine if dubbing out is needed or if the render can be applied to a uniform thickness.
